About SPARC

Portland’s SPARC unit (Strategy, Planning, Analytics, Research + Creative) is a multidisciplinary team that develops impactful and creative strategies rooted in robust insights. We combine research, analytics and proven processes with the expertise and instincts of account teams to ‘show the working’ behind creative ideas and ensure that they deliver measurable results against specific objectives. We identify the right audience, the right channels and the right message to realise each client’s version of success. We work closely with our consultants across the business to identify the insights that can inform compelling campaigns and communications strategies. Our unit is growing fast and needs an experienced researcher to join the team.

The role

You will join the team as a consultant – which, in research agency terms, translates as a Senior Research Executive (SRE) or Research Manager (RM) with at least 2-3 years’ experience. The role will involve both quantitative and qualitative work, so you should be comfortable with both, but the likely balance is 70:30, so you should have especially strong quantitative skills.
In combination with your research skills, you will need to be adept at thinking strategically and enjoy helping internal teams put our research to good use for many different types of clients.
Key attributes for this role:
  • 2+ years of market or social research experience gained in an agency setting.
  • Experience scripting, fielding and creating analyses (and data tables) for quantitative projects. Further experience and knowledge of statistical methods relevant to research (such as segmentation) are a bonus.
  • Experience planning qualitative research, writing discussion guides, creating tasks and moderating all types of sessions.
  • Actively engaged in public affairs and the news.
  • Collaborative attitude that enjoys working in a team.
  • Manage projects from initial project brief through to project completion, including as applicable scoping budgets and timelines, allocating junior resource and liaising with internal and external teams to plan and deliver projects across a broad range of sectors and geographies.
  • High levels of attention to detail.
  • Mentor junior team on skills development, project delivery and client management.
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly articulate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
