Position

The SPARC team conducts primary and secondary research to support the public relations and communications work of Portland. In creating the best strategies for reaching the public or influencing key stakeholders, we use research methods from online surveys, to focus groups or online communities to find out what people believe and how best to speak to them.

This role will be focused primarily on quantitative research, helping to deliver fast turnaround polls and analysis to a wide range of client. In the role you can expect to assist in drafting questionnaire, scripting surveys, producing data tables, charting reports and analyzing the results to provide insightful analysis and strategy to a wide range of our clients.

Person Specification
  • Interest in PR and public affairs
  • Interest in developing a career in market research and strategy
  • Some demonstrable experience in research (a research project at university etc.)
  • Previous experience or internship in quantitative market research a distinct advantage
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Highly articulate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • IT proficient: word, excel, PowerPoint

  • Be organised with the ability to manage your own workload;
  • Be logical, quick and flexible in the appraisal of problems;
  • Have good attention to detail, an ability to work methodically and check the accuracy of your own work;
  • Have the ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of data to tight deadlines ensuring accuracy and relevance;
  • Have the ability to communicate confidently with Portland staff, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Be able to take direction and report progress on your work with others
Qualifications and skills
You must:
  • You must have a Degree (with a minimum of a 2:1).  This is likely to be in a research-oriented social science or arts, e.g. politics, economics, geography
  • Have a keen interest and knowledge of politics, the media, social media and current affairs.
  • Previous experience of working in market research, particularly quantitative research, would be a distinct advantage.
